Uganda Project 2011
For many years, The Kings Church has actively supported missions in other countries such as Greece, Haiti, Russia and Uganda.
This summer sees perhaps our most ambitious project as some of the church family travel to Uganda to install a clean water system into St Paul’s Primary School in Rukungiri.
The project we are supporting will provide clean, fresh water all year round, increasing sanitation and hygiene, thereby reducing the likelihood of disease and illness.
The project will cost about £15,000 and each member of the team was set a target to raise about £700 towards their own air fares and related travel costs.
"Perhaps we cannot change the world but if we can change a child's life then all the effort will have been worth it"
This has been raised through fundraising initiatives such as coffee mornings, a charity night, Sunday lunches, a golf equipment sale, a car boot sale and even a reception to celebrate the royal wedding.Louis Howson, the joint team leader for the project, said: “This is an exciting project which is part of an overall development plan for St Paul's Primary school.
The school provides two meals per day for the children and the team will enable the children to wash with clean water prior to eating their meals. We would like to thank everyone who has supported our fund raising effort which has contributed towards this team being sent out.”
He added: “Perhaps we cannot change the world but if we can change a child's life then all the effort will have been worth it. We take our water for granted but in Uganda it is a precious commodity. The team will help to harvest rain water for use by the children.”
